Financial Freedom: Starting a Business in Your Bathrobe
As I write this, I'm sitting in my living room in my bathrobe.
I never thought I'd be able to generate even a few cents working in my pj's, but starting my own business fourteen years ago, has allowed me to make thousands of dollars, and it all started here.
INCREASE YOUR INCOME
Although our economy has seen the toughest times, my husband and I have increased our income in the last year. He works in a local factory as a hi-lo driver and I write, speak, and teach dog training. No, I don't wear my bathrobe to every job. But I do work every day from home in my pajamas.
With Facebook, twitter, social media, and most job applications completed online, everyone can work from home in their bathrobe.
To get started, you might want to grab a pen and paper or open a new word document.
First, you will need to discover what your niche or specialty area of service is. In other words what service(s) you could you offer?
Second, you will want to think of a way you can make your service unique, different, and stand out from the rest.
*For instance, I offer the normal obedience and dog training, but I also work with a lot of behavioral issues and aggressive/bully dogs--and I offer pet therapy and service dog work--and I'm an AKC Evaluator and can do AKC testing--these are not services everyone offers.
FREE ADVERTISINGThirdly, you will need to get the word out there about the services you are offering. What ways could you advertise? Some might be free, others might charge a fee.
*I subtly advertise through my social media accounts: Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google, and through the weekly blogs I write. I don't say: Hey this is what I'm offering for this price. Instead, I display pictures of happy dogs, clients, and spread the word when a new article or book is accepted. But I also am friends with people. I'm real. I take time to read their posts and pray for them. I share in their lives, I care, and I'm genuine. Don't just get a big friend list to gain income--if you care about your friends and family and do a good service, they will refer you to others. Word of mouth travels faster than any sales pitch you could ever come up with.
SPENDING $$$ to MAKE MONEY
*Another great way to advertise is through Thumbtack. It's totally free to sign up and post a job service you're offering. But there are minimal fees you pay to bid on jobs. BUT this gets your name out there with other professionals and you get hired. I made thousands of dollars last year just for dog training jobs. This year I added motivational speaker and wedding officiant to my list of job services. Already this year I have made several hundred dollars. If you are interested in using their services I can help you out with a link that will give us both a discount. Email Me
I love the flexibility having my own business gives me, not only can I work from my home in my pj's, but I can work my own hours so I have more time to spend with family and do those other hundreds of things that we often put off because we're too busy to do them.
Whether you start your own business as a full-time or part-time to make a little extra money on the side, there is no limit to what you can do--so stop limiting yourself by your beliefs. You can only go as far in life as you see yourself.
Financial freedom starts many times in our homes, in our bathrobes, with a vision or goal, it's up to each of us to achieve it.
"In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success." (Proverbs 3:6 TLB)
