16 No Risk Grains
My Personal Story:
I am so allergic to grains, that I decided to quit eating all grains shortly after the New Year. I had a terrible time breathing and congestion build up. At first I didn't get much better, and realized I was still eating grain in my meats, but as I began eating more non-GMO foods and more organic and grass fed meats, I started feeling much better. I couldn't even walk--where now I can actually do a work out. Still, I hated the fact that I had to give up bread, especially right before my birthday. I wanted pizza so badly. I wanted cake and ice cream. Still, I refused and sucked it up, even though I was miserable. The morning after my birthday I began worshiping God and starting playing DVD worship music and chose "Breathe" by Michael W. Smith. The words "You are the air I breathe" and "You are my daily bread" brought me to my knees. I wept before God totally broken.
God is all that we need, even when we go through the most scariest and difficult times. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16.33
What is GMO?
Gmo is a genetically modified organism. In other words, it is a plant or animal that is created or modified through genetic engineering. In this process, DNA can transfer from one species to another.
I was lead to believe that grains were highly GMO, but a recent article that I read based on the Non-GMO Projects findings, states just the opposite. According to this article most grains are not GMO.
*God is on top of GMO too- Glorious, Mighty, and Omnipitent!-- trust in Him and He will give you the wisdom you need for healthier living and set you free!
What grains are at risk of being GMO?
The non-GMO Project lists eight foods that are high risk:
- sugar beets
Corn, soy, cotton, canola, and sugar beets crops are the most common for being GMO, some as much as 90%. According to this article, NO GRAINS ARE "HIGH RISK" for being GMO. That being said, there are still risks. Grain is my number one allergy. For quite some time I choked no matter what I ate, even though I wasn't eating breads and grains. Recently I learned that due to GMO, grains are being transferred to many other foods. Now that I've been eliminating GMO and eating more organic foods, I rarely ever have breathing trouble or have to clear my throat.
What grains are considered 100% safe and non-GMO?
Is there such a thing in our day and age as 100% safe and free of all GMO? According to the Non-GMO Project there are what they call Monitored Grains. These have the highest potential for cross contamination and are mainly rice and wheat. However, many of the GMO strains have not been approved in the US for marketing. GM what has been created by a company called Monsato, but they have not been approved by the FDA. And although there have been what they call minor instances of this GMO wheat cross contaminating other fields, they claim it's a very small percentage. Golden rice is also a product of GMO and should be avoided.
The good news is, there are 16 Grains that are considered absolutely no risk.
