Bringing The Change to Stop Bullying
Bullying Statistics are actually worse not better. Used to be 1 out of 10 students was bullied, now it's one in every five.
Bullying, Abuse, and Violence aren’t anything new. They go back to the beginning of time with Cain and Abel. Cain killed his brother Abel. It all began with jealousy.
Sadly, today this vicious cycle of abuse, bullying and violence continues—both with people and with dogs. People torture others, commit mass murders, and now victims/targets are even turning to suicide or revenge as a way of escape. Some of them think it’s the only way out. Others may think it’s a way to make their bullies pay. But the truth is the bully will keep on bullying and hurting others unless we bring them to accountability and create change.
In this demonstration (above) all these puppets/stuffed animals are "different". That's how bullying starts, when we begin to see differences in others. We show children that they are more alike then different, and that their slight differences are what makes them special and unique.
We cannot keep doing things the same way and expect different results. That’s why we are passionate about our Abuse Bites program which educates kids, teens, and adults on this crucial topic, so we can go out and literally CHANGE hearts and SAVE lives.
Above students interact to demonstrate how it feels to be left out. Three girls whisper and giggle while the little girl by me is left out. We teach children to accept others, especially those that are new, different, or don't seem to have a friend. We encourage them to invite anyone who is singled out to sit at their lunch table, play with them at recess, etc. We teach Empathy!
This past week in Detroit, Michigan, at the Michigan Math and Science Academy, we empowered over 500 elementary and junior high students to change!
By interacting with children and teens, we are able to show them through games and demonstrations, that they can bully others in a number of ways, but also what they can do in these situations to stop bullying.
Above, two students play a game that actually shows how practical jokes can be bullying too!
Above, these students learn through this demonstration that they have the same value and worth. We teach equality.
Above, students learn through this fun game of tug o war how to defeat bullying without violence! We teach forgiveness, not revenge. We teach them to get help and let go, not make the bullying problem worse by fighting back.
Above, these students participate in a "Peer Pressure" game. The blind feeding the blind.. Peer pressure will mess you up! We teach them to say NO to Peer Pressure and be Postive Peer mentors and stand up for others who are being bullied.
Above, Baby Ruth, AKA "The Bully" demonstrates how bully's can change! She was the worst dog to train, she did a lot of bad things, even ran away from me and got hit by a car. BUT I continued to work with her, love her, discipline her, and train her, and now she is BETTER and does some neat tricks for the program! We teach that bullying is a behavior, not who a person is, so bully's can change and be different!
